Week 13 Story: Leopard Cake

There once was a little boy who lived with his mother and father. The little boy was celebrating his birthday, and his mother asked him what type of cake he wanted. The little boy said he wanted a cake shaped like a leopard. The mother put the cake in to bake and told the little boy, "Your father and I are going to the market. Keep an eye on the oven while we are gone." The mother and father left, and the little boy sat in the kitchen staring at the oven. He got very bored, and decided to go outside to play. When the little boy got tired, he went inside and found the oven door wide open! He went to the front door, only to see the leopard cake running away! The little boy chased after the cake, but got very tired and had to sit down. The leopard cake kept running and kept running, until it came across two mice. The mice asked, "Where are you going, leopard cake?" The leopard cake responded, "I just outran a little boy. Since I am a leopard, I am faster than...

Week 11 Story: How Flower Stole Sunlight

Long ago, when only plants lived on earth, Redwoods were the only ones who had sunlight. All the other plants wanted sunlight too, but Redwoods were taller than everyone else. They stole the sunlight before it could reached any of the other plants.  The other plants lived in darkness and fear but Redwoods refused to share sunlight with anyone else.  The other plants decided to hold a council to discuss the growing worry they had about living in darkness. Meanwhile, Redwoods held their own council in the light. They set up guards to protect themselves from having other plants try to come take sunlight from them.  But Flower had taken root near where the Redwoods were having their meeting before the guards set up. While the Redwoods had their meeting, a small bit of sunlight crept towards Flower. Flower hid a little bit of sunlight in its petals and slowly started moving back towards the other plants' meeting.  Before Flower could escape, however, the Redwoods no...

Week 9 Story: The Headmaster of White Lotus Academy

There once lived a headmaster who oversaw the White Lotus Academy, a school for young wizards. The headmaster was a powerful wizard, and many students hoped to learn from him. One day before going out, he told a group of students to watch over a small wooden box for him. "But you must not open it," the headmaster told them. They promised they would not before he left. Not long after, the students' curiosity got the best of them and they open the top of the box. Inside, they found a small toy car. To pass the time, the students played with the car but made sure it was back safely before the headmaster returned. When he got back to White Lotus Academy, the headmaster burst into the room yelling, "Why did you disobey me when I told you to not open the box?" The students denied that they had ever even touched the box. "Why then, did my car crash when I was returning?" The students knew they had been caught, but the headmaster decided to give...

Week 7 Story: Wolf, Pig, and Owl

Pig lived in a brick house and baked a pie every day. One day, Wolf walked by and smelled the wonderful scent of a pie wafting down the road. Wolf stopped by Pig's house and peered into the kitchen window. He said to Pig, "Give me that pie." Pig replied, "No, I will not give you this pie. I am excited to eat it and do not have time to make another." Wolf said, "If you don't give me the pie, I will huff and puff and blow your house down." Pig had seen Wolf blow down the houses of the other two pigs and was afraid of Wolf blowing his house down. Pig handed Wolf the pie through the window. The next day, Wolf stopped by Pig's house again and demanded Pig give him the pie he was making that day. Day after day, Wolf stopped by Pig's kitchen window and took the pie Pig baked that day. Owl was flying by Pig's window and could hearing sobbing coming from the kitchen. He stopped by and asked Pig why he cried. Pig sobbed, ...

A wealthy man named Ray lived in New York City in the penthouse of a tall building. This man was well known and respected throughout the entire city. Ray had so many riches, he decided he needed to keep them secure. He hired a team of builders to construct a strong, secure vault in a nearby building. While working on the project, one of the builders secretly wrote down the code for the vault and hid it away. A while after the vault was complete, the man became very ill and realized he would not live much longer. Shortly before he died, he gave the code to his two sons, giving them instructions on how to get into the vault. Their father passed, and realizing they needed a source of income, the brothers decided it was time to go to the vault. One night, they snuck into the vault and took enough treasure to last them a while. Ray entered the vault the next day and was shocked by what he found! He had no idea how someone could have entered and escaped his vault without leaving a trace. ...

Week 3 Story: The Forbidden Flower

I walked around the palace gardens, blissfully taking in the bright sun, light breeze, and soft grass. But my favorite part of the gardens has always been the abundance of flowers in it. Every day, I came out and picked a bouquet from the various stems and bushes of tulips, roses, daisies, petunias, lilies, and carnations. Today,  I walked around on my daily walk selecting the most beautiful flowers I could find. As I reached the center of the garden, I came upon a single orchid. I pass by this flower every day, but have strict orders from my father-in-law that I must never touch this flower. I never questioned him, but rather just admired the flower's beauty every time I walked past. As I selected a red rose, the finishing touch for today's bouquet, I was approached by one of the palace workers. He came up and said," Princess, why is the orchid not a part of your bouquet? I see you admire it every day, and yet you never pick it." I replied, "The king has tol...

Week 2 Story: Pygmalion's Painting

Pygmalion lived alone. He saw the flaws of all the women around him and decided it was better to live on his own than with any of  the corrupt women he could take as a wife. But Pygmalion was lonely, so one day, he decided to create the perfect women. He took out his easel, brushes, and paints, and drew a woman so beautiful, no man would ever doubt her perfection. He painted her clothes of fine silk, skin as white as ivory, and fine jewelry as gorgeous as she. Once she was completed, Pygmalion framed her painting and hung it on his wall, where he passed by every day. Every time he walked past her, Pygmalion would caress her cheeks or stroke her name, pretending the canvas to be flesh. And little by little, he added to her image, painting her a small gift every day. Rapidly, Pygmalion fell in love with her more and more, but grew more and more discontent with her lack of life. When the festival of Venus finally arrived, Pygmalion saw this opportunity to pray to the gods for a liv...
